Can I do just groups lessons?
Sure, Dance Gen has a variety of different classes available with specialised groups for beginners and student’s learning primarily through groups. However once a student has progressed through the first 4 levels we do encourage the use of a few private lessons to learn advanced techniques to help dance the higher levels of the syllabus. How many people in a group class? Our groups have a maximum of 12 people in them, although they are a great way to meet people we still want you to receive quality tuition and guidance. Maintaining the size of a group allows the instructor to keep the quality of tuition high with individual feedback. Do I have to swap partners? One of the most important skills of a good dancer is to be able to dance with a variety of partners but if you are coming along to spend some quality time with someone special and prefer not to, just let the instructor know at the beginning of the group and they will keep you together. Can I learn just one or two dances? Of course, every one learns to dance for different reason. That’s why Dance Gen offers a free first lesson to make sure the programme you get is the one you want and need. Some students want to be all round good social dancers ready for any occasions, others just want to impress with a tango or have a special event coming up. It’s totally up to the individual. Can I pay as I go? Each program is designed by you, including your schedule and dance budget. Don’t panic at the thought of an enrolment, it could just be committing to 5 groups. As trained professional teachers we do think long term and prefer to enrol you on program it helps the instructor to plan lessons that are fun, easy and informative. It’s your call, pay as you go or plan ahead. Do I always have the same instructor? When you first start learning you will have a primary instructor, you might find height-wise etc. you prefer dancing with a particular instructor and that can be arranged. At Dance Gen we believe all our instructors have something different to offer and you can include exchange lessons, styling or coaching sessions in your programme. Dance Generation is a village; all the staff are part of raising you from a beginner to a confident exciting dancer. What is the difference between learning a routine or free styling? Dance Gen is big on teaching you lead and follow, although we teach routines for special occasion: wedding dances or performances. Learning to freestyle means you feel comfortable dancing anywhere, anytime with anyone. Freestyle means you choose the step that suits the size of the floor or the music, free styling is more creative, spontaneous and more in the moment then following and remembering a set pattern around the floor. I have bad rhythm; can you help me with that? Part of the learning process includes understanding the different rhythms that are used for different styles, how to hear the tempo, moving with your partner. Learning with Dance Gen isn’t just steps, we build your confidence with floor craft, musicality and personal style. Can you teach me to dance to my wedding song? Absolutely! Dance Gen takes all the nerves out of your first dance helping you create an atmosphere to complement your theme and personal style. From an elegant waltz to a wedding day mash up. It’s your day, we listen to your ideas and make them happen. Do I need a partner to learn to dance? Not at all! A lot of people learn for their own enjoyment and find learning quicker with an Instructor as their partner because they can focus solely on their own dancing. Dance Gen creates numerous events to have you dancing with multiple partners be it groups, parties, balls or social outings. Learning to dance lead and follow means being a good partner. Couples are welcome too and can learn together or spend some time on their individual dancing. |
